Standards for monitoring contaminant levels in products destined to human consumption
Contaminants in Descriptor 9 are the substances for which maximum regulatory levels are established for products destined to human consumption. Therefore, this Descriptor links the MSFD with the existing European policy framework for food safety against contamination (chemical safety of food).
Maximum levels in foodstuffs have been set for certain contaminants (e.g. dioxins, heavy metals) in order to protect public health.
