Chemical contaminants from sea-based sources, focusing on regulatory aspects
Review of chemical contaminants released from sea-based sources with a focus on the policies and frameworks for their management and regulation within the EU
Chemical substances occurring in the marine environment might derive from shipping, mariculture, offshore oil and gas production, marine renewable energy devices, seabed mining, dredging of sediments, dumping of dredged material and historical dumping. |
This report compiles a list of contaminants potentially entering the marine environment from these sea-based sources and provides an overview of the policies and frameworks in place to oversee and regulate them within the EU. This information may contribute to the setting-up of approaches to marine pollution monitoring as well as help guide the identification of relevant substances for the implementation of the MSFD descriptor 8. |
